Commercial advertisements are strictly prohibited

Commercial advertisements either via the use of avatar image, signature, private messages (PM) or any posting on the forums are disallowed irrespective of whether the poster has any interest in the advertisement. Advertisements that display any other discussion boards and blogs of similar nature as Cari, as well as images displaying web addresses are strictly prohibited. Other than advertisements featuring Cari, there must be no posting of any other external advertisement on Cari forums.

If a posting is for sharing purposes, please indicate that it is of sharing nature. Only website sources that are truly useful can be posted in the forums. Postings of web links to any commercial websites for the purposes of advertisement are not allowed. Members bear the risk of punishment if they post links with the intention to advertise for any website. Members can report to the moderators if there is any posting of this kind. If there is any intended transaction between members, it must not be made over posting in the forums. It is encouraged that members contact each other in private (Private Messages/email/phone) in relation to their transactions. The Management hereby disclaims any responsibility over any complaints, discontent or loss involved in any private transaction entered into by members.

Prohibited Conduct:

Members must not use web link, posting or image (via replies, threads, Private Messages, avatar or signature) to:

Propagate advertisements displaying any discussion board or blog whose nature is similar to Cari.
Propagate advertisements featuring commercial websites.
Propagate advertisements featuring any other website that offer the service of increasing internet traffic
Propagate advertisements displaying any paid membership-based websites that offer members opportunities to make money online.
Advertise for any other online advertising service website
Post any link to advertise for any commercial brand or company
Propagate any advertisement featuring job hire

(Note: The Management has the right to make any addition, modification or removal of these rules at any time. Any changes are not to be made retrospectively, which means that any breach of conduct is bounded by the rules in force at the time of the breach.)

About local forums:

Some users might want to post information about local attractions or any other unique recreational place such as restaurants on the local forums (eg Penang, Selangor). If the user does not post any address or contact phone, and with pure intention to share with other members, it is not considered advertising. As local forums are location-focused, postings showing information about the uniqueness (culture, food etc) of a particular place are encouraged.

Below are some examples that do not breach rules:

Example:

Thread: Yesterday I went to Jogoya in KL for dinner. The decorations there are beautiful, and the food only cost me RM200. The food was fresh and there are some types of food that I had never eaten before (see attached photos).

Any other posting similar to the above example is not considered a foul as long as there is no telephone or any other contact method. If the users post contact, telephone number or address about a particular commercial place, moderators will decide whether the topic is of value to local tourism, and then decide whether to allow it or not. The contents may be edited to ensure that the posting is purely for the purpose of sharing. This is to protect the interests of the forum without sacrificing the importance of unique local information. Posting of web links linking to government official websites introducing local tourism in the country is not considered commercial advertisement.

Expressions/opinions containing pornography, racial/religious hatred or discrimination, and intimidation/threats are strictly prohibited per se

Any posting of pornography material or web link connecting to pornography websites is strictly prohibited. Postings or materials containing discriminatory remarks, sedition, insult, false rumours, racism, religious intolerance, violence, threats and anything of similarly unacceptable nature will not be tolerated per se. Only discussions in good manners are allowed. Any user who breaches this rule is subject to punishment as severe as a ban from posting/replying or even a ban from visiting the forum without prior warning.

Abusive language, personal attacks, defamatory statements and vulgarity are strictly prohibited.

Abusive, defamatory language and personal attacks are not allowed in the forums. Any expression out of emotional impulse, name-calling are also prohibited. Breach of these will result in deduction of points and the posting will be deleted. Severe and repeated breaches will result in the member's account banned from visiting or posting on the forums. Members must also not mention the exact or real name of commercial brands, companies and any organization when they post negative comments or complain against their services or products. The Management reserves the right to remove any thread or topic deemed to have breached these upon receiving complaints.

What are postings of complaints against commercial brands or companies?

These are prohibited postings containing complaints or negative remarks about the products or services of particular brand names or shops.

Example of prohibited postings:
Thread/Topic: You should not go to McDonald's.
Content: Their food and services are very bad.

Postings such as the one above are disallowed. However, it is Cari's stand that members have the right to voice their opinions and views about products or services of particular brand names or companies. The rule is that members must not mention the exact name of the particular brand names or shops when voicing negative views about their services or products.

Example of allowed postings:
Thread/Topic: You should not go to MXDXnXld's
Content: Their food and services are very poor.

Postings such as the one above are allowed. However, if there are complaints, The Management retains the right to edit or remove them.

Prohibited Conduct:

Circulation of private information of others and maliciously modified photos of others are strictly prohibited

Any form of private information of others including phone number, address, identity card number, photos or any information that probably infringes their must not be published or circulated in the Cari Forum. Members who breach this rule can be banned from posting in or visiting the forums. Any maliciously modified photos, including those of public figures are strictly prohibited.

Multiple postings on similar topic and threads that reflect the nature of cliques or groups are not allowed

Members must not post similar topics/threads or content in different sub-forums. Any thread that reflect the nature of cliques or certain groups are also prohibited. Threads that reflect cliques or groups are threads that are specially created only for the use of certain groups of members on Cari Forum, and not for the whole Cari community. Once this kind of threads and postings are discovered, they will be removed, and the offender will be punished by deduction of points or being banned from posting in the forum.

Members must not use web link, posting or image (via replies, threads, Private Messages, avatar or signature) to circulate materials or content related to suicide:

Discussion of suicide is strictly prohibited in Cari forums. Any postings of such nature, including web links will be removed, and offenders will be punished by deduction of points and may be banned from posting on the forums.

Meaningless postings are prohibited

Any replies or postings that are purposely made in a short period of time in several sub-forums, besides postings that have no clear meaning (eg. 'Hahahaha' or just emoticons) are all considered as meaningless postings and will not be tolerated. Moderators will remove such postings and punish offenders by deduction of points or by imposing a ban from visiting.

Any threads related to fundraising activities not officially authorised by Cari are prohibited

Members must not use web link, posting or image (via replies, threads, Private Messages, avatar or signature) to circulate materials or content related to fundraising activities not officially authorised by Cari:

Fundraising activities that have no permit are illegal. As it is not possible for The Management to determine the legitimacy of every external fundraising activity, any form of fundraising campaigns unauthorised by Cari are not allowed to be promoted in the forums. No member is allowed to provide bank account number to raise funds for any purpose. Members are advised to approach the relevant charity organisations or news agencies directly if they wish to make donations to charity causes.

Violation of intellectual property rights is prohibited

Members must not use web link, posting or image (via replies, threads, Private Messages, avatar or signature) to circulate materials or content that could violate intellectual property rights:

When sharing materials or content on Cari forums, members must mention the sources of the materials. For example, web links, books, and newspaper articles. This is to avoid encroachment of the rights of the original authors/owners of such information. It is acceptable for general knowledge to be shared without mentioning the sources, but the sharing of specialized and professional knowledge or information requires the naming of their sources. Sharing of electronic content such as illegal MP3, videos/movies and e-books is strictly not allowed. Once it is discovered, it will be removed, and offenders will receive punishment by point deduction or even a ban from posting or visiting the forums.

The rules of member's account

After successfully registering an account with Cari, members must keep their account name and password confidential and not to disclose to anyone. If members notice that there is unauthorised use of their account by a third party, please contact The Management (forum administrator) immediately. The Management takes no responsibility for any loss caused by the members' non-compliance with this rule.

If members create account names that are similar to the names of accounts that have been banned from visiting or posting, members will be informed to change account name.

If members create account names that breach the rules mentioned below, they will be banned from visiting the forums.

Prohibited Account Names:

Account names that contain materials of commercial advertisements, pornography/vulgarity, violence, insult, defamation or abusive language.
Account names that involves identity theft or create confusion (including but not limited to the name of forum moderators or administrators, corporate figures and politicians)
Account names that reflect cliques/groups

Any posting that contain prohibited advertisement materials, call for boycott, pornography, violence, extreme racial or religious remarks, vulgar or abusive language, sexual harassment and any other content of similar nature is strictly not allowed to be circulated through the use of Private Messages (PM). Members can use 'printscreen' of the abusive Private Message to make official complaint to The Management. Members can also use the 'blacklist' function in Private Message to filter out the PM of members who have breached this rule. Members who abuse the use of Private Messages can be banned from visiting the forums.

The Management encourages members to make official complaint to report breach of conduct by other members. Members are asked to explain clearly in their complaints to allow moderators/administrators to handle quickly. However, members must not repeatedly send many official complaints that have no clear explanation or purpose. Offenders of this rule can be banned from visiting the forums. If there are urgent matters, members can send PM to forum administrators directly.

Levels of Breach of Conduct and the Penalties:

(Note: The following ways of punishment apply to all types of wrongful conduct mentioned above.)

First offence

Deduct 200 points + Official Warning

Second and Third offence

Deduct 500 points each time

Beyond Third offence (Fourth offence and onwards)

Deduct 800 points + Ban from visiting for 1 week each time

(Forum Moderators must enforce punishment based on the above method by applying the relevant punishment according to the level of breach of conduct involved.)

Rules of Avatar image

Prohibited Avatar Images:

Images that contain materials/content of prohibited advertisements,
Images that contain materials/content of pornography, suicide, violence, slander, vulgarity, racism or religious extremism and any other content of similar nature.
Maliciously edited photos of other people (including but not limited to those of corporate figures and politicians)
Materials or content that breach the privacy of other people, including photos and other private information
Materials or content that are inappropriate (including but not limited to indecent hand gestures or remarks)
Content or materials of fundraising activities not authorised by Cari.
Content or materials that breach intellectual property rights.

Members who use Avatar images that breach the above rules can be banned from posting. They can demand for the ban to be lifted after they have changed their Avatar to more appropriate image. Those who refuse to change their avatar image can be banned from visiting the forums.

The rules of Signature and Profile Page

Content or materials containing the prohibited advertisements, pornography, abusive language, racism and religious extremism, suicide, vulgarity, slander, unauthorised fundraising campaigns as well as those that breach others' privacy and intellectual property rights are all not allowed to be displayed in Signature and Profile Page. However, blogs and social networks such as Twitter are not prohibited. It is advised that members do not display their private information such as telephone number and house address. If it is found that some content breach these rules, the members involved will be asked to make changes, and offenders can be banned from posting in the forums. They can demand for the ban to be lifted after they have made appropriate changes. Those who refuse to do so can be banned from visiting the forums.

Forum Moderators are allowed to make rules and regulations specifically for their respective sub-forums if and only if the sub-forum rules do not come into conflict with the main 14 rules stated above.

Any sub-forum rules made by forum moderators that come into conflict with this main 14 rules will be deemed to be void and inoperative. Forum moderators have the freedom to make rules and regulations that do not come into conflict with this main 14 rules.

Forum Administrators and Moderators are free to manage their respective sub-forums, this includes editing/moving/deleting threads and postings, issuing warning and deducting points of members who breach these main 14 rules. Moderators have the final power to interpret these main 14 rules and apply punishments accordingly within their respective sub-forums.

Forum Administrators have full power to make changes to these main 14 rules when it is deemed necessary.

** These 14 Rules and Regulations are the main point of reference for the whole Cari community
** New members will be given one chance if they breach the above rules for the first time. After the first chance is given, they will also be bound by the above 14 rules.
** Other existing members are all bound by the above 14 rules.
